Wellness Consultation

With a functional Medicine Approach

At Nutritional PT, we utilize various tools to identify dysfunctions within three major systems: Adrenals, Digestion, and Detoxification. Through natural health programs, personalized nutrition plans, along with lifestyle recommendations we design customized programs to support you where you need it most and get feeling better.

Functional medicine aims to identify opportunities to support the foundations of health.

The methodology includes the following:

  • Provide foundational support to Adrenals, Digestion and Detoxification through a nutrient-dense food plan, adequate sleep, physical movement, stress management, and satisfying relationships.

  • Investigate the root cause of symptoms using a systems-based approach to identify the foundations' weaknesses that can eventually lead to degenerative health problems.

  • Recommend prioritized treatment strategies to ensure progress toward your wellness goals that fit into your current lifestyle.

Do you need Functional medicine?

Many of us have joint pain, digestion issues, skin issues, and fatigue that may be related to a nutritional or lifestyle imbalance. Nutritional Therapy and Functional Medicine can help investigate your symptoms to connect how you move, sleep, socialize, manage stress, and eat with how you feel. Through a wide range of evaluation tools and techniques that help identify and correct imbalances, a functional medicine program can give you a clear path on what to prioritize and help you feel your best.

At Nutritional PT, we do not treat or diagnose. Our approach is not suitable for those with cancer, autoimmune disorder, bone loss, chronic diseases, or neurodegenerative diseases. We can identify those we can help and those we need to refer to other licensed healthcare specialists. So, if you do have a condition and dealing with symptom we do support, contact me to see if we would be a good fit to work together. Regardless, we strongly encourage any of our clients to have a primary care physician they follow for conventional care.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, you may be in the right place. This program is especially useful for anyone who has been told :

“There’s nothing wrong with you; your tests all come back normal.”

“You are just getting older.”

“You just need to lose weight.”

“You are just stressed.”

We call this the “gray area of healthcare.” Most people get lost in the system with nowhere else to turn. No other treatment options. You end up feeling lost and hopeless and try to understand that this is your “normal.”

But you know your body better than anyone. Don’t give up, and keep asking questions.

Functional medicine at Nutritional PT can help.

During your program, we strive to answer these BIG questions:

  • Is there a deficiency or imbalance in the foundations contributing to your symptoms?

  • What should you prioritize in your healing journey?

  • Are there any functional lab tests that would give us more information to customize your program and track your outcomes?

  • Are there specific nutrients that will work best for you?

  • When are you sufficient with those nutrients?

  • What do you need to maintain your success?

Functional Nutrition Fundamentals:

Our relationship to food is multidimensional, and many conscious and unconscious desires impact our choices. The vital foundational aspects are eating a healthy diet and making positive choices. The Functional Nutrition Fundamentals consist of four main ideas about food and nutrition:

Food is energy. At the most basic level, food is a fuel source necessary for the body to function.

Food is information. Byproducts of food convey messages and assist with various bodily processes (e.g., stress response, metabolism, detoxification, etc.).

Food is a connection. Food brings people together, often as a central focus of social gatherings and celebratory events. Additionally, pleasant and unpleasant memories often incorporate smell, taste, and texture. The reasons behind food choices, cravings, and aversions aren’t always logical or rational, and these reasons can often be tied back to our emotional connections to food. Investigating what you eat and how you feel will give you valuable information for making decisions to meet your goals on how you want to feel.

Food is medicine. We are what we eat. Foods and food behaviors influence the body and can contribute to underlying disease causes. These factors can be adjusted to move an individual toward their most remarkable state of health and healing. Choosing nutrient-dense foods that send signals to the body for positive gene expression is critical to optimal health.

Modifiable lifestyle factors: Health-promoting lifestyle factors that will be included in your plan:

Sleep and relaxation: Getting adequate sleep and making time for meaningful relaxation allows your body to heal, eliminate toxins, and improve digestion.

Exercise and movement: Participating in physical activity that is age-appropriate and performed within the parameters of an individual’s health status allows the body to keep mobility through joints, muscles, and all of our tubes. Hence, we keep fluids and toxins flowing so we don’t get stiff and toxic.

Nutrition: Maintaining adequate hydration and eating a nutrient-dense diet that is age-appropriate and complimentary to your health conditions allows for adequate and available nutrients to support bone, brain, muscle, heart, and overall health while maximizing the biochemistry to maintain proper functioning of our organs, metabolism, and cell signaling.

Stress: Reducing overall stress levels and effectively responding to existing stress allows the body to continue the cascade of hormonal health without getting stuck in a downward spiral between fatigue, depression, and digestive issues, leading to other long-term chronic conditions.

Relationships: Developing and maintaining healthy relationships and social networks while reducing the impact of toxic relationships keeps your brain in a safe space to focus on metabolism, energy production, and joy.

Personalized Programs:

This method treats each person as a unique individual. Based on personal history, family history, environment and lifestyle factors, physical presentation, and components of mind, body, and spirit. Interventions are tailored to each person and adjusted based on the person’s individualized response.

How long does it take to get results?

Results vary by each person. Some people feel improvements within weeks, while others may take a bit longer. A standard program is for a minimum of 3 months. Remember how long you have had symptoms and how long it took to get that way. On average, it takes one month of repair for each year you’ve suffered from a specific problem. Your body doesn’t fail overnight. Years of stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, and little exercise take their toll, and it takes time to restore health. Often people don’t realize how bad they feel until they start feeling better. Once you start feeling better, this will motivate you to continue on your plan. Additionally, you will learn what the best maintenance program is for you to maintain your success.

What will the program be like?

The program will consist of an assessment to address common conditions related to weight gain, fatigue, digestive problems, etc., followed by prioritizing support for major body systems, such as hormones, digestion, and detoxification. You will receive a customized program that fits your budget and lifestyle based on the analysis of your medical history, online comprehensive nutrition assessment questionnaire (NAQ), and current diet and exercise routine.

We strive to create a partnership with you to assist as needed through your wellness journey. Read more about What To Expect.

Stop feeling terrible. Let’s investigate the source of your symptoms! After a thorough intake, we can identify what’s not showing up on conventional testing. From there, we discover meaningful interventions. This holistic approach will provide a customized plan to address your health concerns at the root cause.
